Facelift
A facelift
can remove the signs of aging by creating a smoother and younger
appearance to a person's face and neck area. Depending on the individual,
a facelift can have subtle or very dramatic results. Candidates
for facelifts may have a deep line or fold running from the corner
of their nose to the corner of their mouth, jowls or a loss of a
well-defined jawline, deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of
the highlight areas of the cheekbones, or loose skin, wrinkles,
or excess fatty tissue in the neck.
The facelift surgeon will first evaluate the facelift candidate
to see if the benefits of the procedure outweigh the risks. Taken
into consideration will be the thickness, texture, and elasticity
of your skin along with the severity of wrinkles and folds to determine
if the desired results are possible. Facelifts can sometimes be
combined with other procedures to correct conditions like sagging
eyebrows, excess skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower
eyelids, or wrinkles in the mouth, which a facelift cannot fix.
A Facelift is performed by making an incision in the natural contour
of the patient's ear that extends around the earlobe and back into
the hairline. Incisions are easy to hide after the surgery with
hair or makeup and the appearance of them should fade with time.
Depending on how much work needs to be done, a small incision under
the patient's chin may be made so that fatty tissue can be removed
in that area and to smooth the cord-like structures of the underling
muscle in the neck. The facelift surgeon may need to reposition
the deeper tissues to achieve a more youthful result. The skin is
then pulled up and back and the excess is removed.
A facelift is a permanent solution to restoring a youthful look
lost with aging, however a facelift will not fight off any future
aging that occurs. Within two weeks any swelling and bruising should
