Lipoplasty
is used to remove isolated pockets of fat in men and women who have
been unable to get rid of the problem area through diet and exercise.
Often times, the isolated pockets of fat are an inherited trait
that have little response to dieting or exercise. Lipoplasty is
not intended as a means for weight loss.
Everyone will experience different results from lipoplasty. During
the consultation you will discuss the areas you wish to improve
with the plastic surgeon and your surgeon will be able to communicate
if your goals and expectations are achievable. Lipoplasty works
by removing fat from the desired areas by inserting a small, hollow
tube called a cannula through one or more tiny incisions near the
area to be suctioned. The incisions are made as inconspicuously
as possible so that over time the scars will fade and be barely
noticeable. There are different lipoplasty techniques that will
be determined by your surgeon.
Results of a lipoplasty are very gradual but once they are apparent
touchups can be made to further improve an area. While it is possible
to lose the effect of the lipoplasty with weight gain, patients
will find that the weight is more evenly distributed following the
lipoplasty instead of building up in particular areas. Without any
type of weight gain the results of a lipoplasty can be long lasting.
Lipoplasty
is a surgical procedure and has the potential for complication,
as does any surgical procedure. Bleeding, infections, and reactions
to anesthesia may occur though lipoplasty is successfully performed
everyday. After lipoplasty there may be a numbness of the skin that
is almost always a temporary sensation. Find out if you may benefit
