12, 2001, “35-TO 50-Year-Olds Make Up 44% Of Cosmetic Surgery Population,
Says American Society of Plastic Surgeons”
TAccording to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
(ASPS) more than 7.4 million people have had cosmetic plastic surgery
in 2000. The ASPS cosmetic surgery survey is the most comprehensive
to date. There used to a belief that cosmetic plastic surgery was
only reserved for older people, but according to the ASPS this is
no longer the case. With cosmetic plastic surgery procedures being
better perfected and more treatments and procedures now being offered,
patients are able to undergo non-invasive and invasive procedures
depending on what type of work and enhancements they wish to get.
People
between the ages of 35 and 50 made up 44 percent of those who had
cosmetic plastic surgery in 2000 with more than 3.2 million procedures
performed. The top three invasive surgical procedures in 2000 were
liposuction (175,857), nose reshaping (137,580), and eyelid surgery
(109,493). The top three non-surgical procedures in 2000 were: chemical
peel (507,514), Botox® injection (461,454), and sclerotherapy
(442,116).

12, 2001, “7.4 Million Americans Chose Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Says
American Society of Plastic Surgeons”
The
American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released the expanded
2000 statistics of cosmetic plastic surgery reporting over 7.4 million
people had undergone some type of cosmetic plastic surgery procedure
in the previous year. The high number of cosmetic plastic surgery
patients is partially attributed to the growing acceptance of choosing
surgical methods to enhance aesthetic beauty. In combination with
exercise, healthy diets, and taking care of skin, more Americans
are trying to live healthy and want their appearance to reflect
how good they feel inside.
